Colour

A belt is judged by three things and this one states all three. The leather is 头层牛皮 — top grain, the outer layer of the hide rather than the split beneath it — and it is vegetable-tanned, so the colour sits in the fibre instead of coating the surface. The buckle is brushed alloy, deliberately matte rather than polished. The strap is 2.8 cm wide, narrow enough to sit on a trouser loop without taking the waistband over. The supplier publishes a six-row chart matching strap length to trouser size, which is the measurement that actually matters here, and it is reproduced in the gallery. Made in black and coffee, in six lengths from 95 cm to 120 cm. (Weight: DETAILS TO BE CONFIRMED with the supplier.)

Top grain, not split

The outer layer of the hide, where the fibres are tightest, rather than the split layer underneath it. That is the difference between a belt that creases where it bends and one that eventually separates. The other leather piece in this range is split cowhide; this one is not, and the two are priced accordingly.

Vegetable-tanned

植鞣 — tanned with plant tannins rather than chromium salts. The colour runs through the leather instead of sitting on top of it, which is why the cut edge reads dark rather than pale, and why it deepens with handling instead of wearing through.

A matte buckle

Brushed alloy, 3.0 cm, left unpolished on purpose. A mirror-polished buckle on a plain strap reads as costume jewellery; a matte one reads as hardware. It is fixed with a single rivet, so the strap can be shortened from the buckle end without restitching.

Details

  • Colour: Black · Coffee
  • Size: 95 · 100 · 105 · 110 · 115 · 120 cm
  • Material: Top-grain cow leather (头层牛皮), vegetable-tanned; brushed alloy buckle

Care

  • Wipe with a dry cloth. Leather does not want soap.
  • Dry away from direct heat — a radiator stiffens it and cracks the finish.
  • Store it rolled rather than folded; a hard fold becomes a permanent crease.

Why we chose it

Because it states its own grade. The listing says 头层牛皮 — top grain — and prints the buckle and strap measurements on its own spec plate instead of leaving them to be guessed, and the stall has been on the platform fifteen years with a 66% returning-buyer rate. Most belts at this price are split leather sold as "genuine leather" and nothing more.
