Pointed Metal-Ring Slingback

A pointed shoe with an open heel and a scooped vamp, cut low enough that the line runs from the toe straight to the ankle. A gold ring sits across the vamp where a strap would normally cross — it is the only ornament, and it is what makes the shoe read as evening wear rather than office wear. Three colours are filed — black, ivory and red — and all three are photographed. The upper is not described anywhere on the offer: nothing names leather, and at this price it should be assumed synthetic until a sample says otherwise. The heel is a 6–8 cm band on a fine covered heel, and the fit comes from the sling rather than a buckle.

A ring, not a strap

The gold circle across the vamp is fixed. It carries no adjustment, so the fit has to come from the sling at the back. On a narrow foot that is fine; on a wide one it will pinch before the sling does.

No material anywhere

The offer names no upper, lining or sole. The finish photographs like a grained leather on the red pair and like a smooth calf on the black, but neither is filed — quote it as synthetic until a swatch proves otherwise.

Why we chose it

A pointed slingback with one piece of metal doing the whole job — the cleanest evening shape in the heel chip and the only one photographed on a plain floor.

Care

• Dust the vamp with a dry cloth; the gold ring should be polished with a soft cloth, not a liquid.
• Rest the shoe on its side in the box so the pointed toe does not press on anything.
• Keep the sling elastic relaxed out of season so it does not stretch and lose the fit.
