Pixiu Open Ring

A wide band cast and chased with the pixiu, the winged lion of Chinese gold-and-jade tradition, worked so the animal wraps around the finger and the engraving continues inside the shank. Two finishes are filed: a 复古版, an antiqued version with the recesses darkened so the carving reads at a glance, and a 银本色版, the same ring in a bright silver. The title calls it 镀925银 — plated 925 silver — which is a plating claim rather than a solid-metal one, and no 材质 or 克重 row is filed, so the base metal and the depth of the plating are both unstated and neither is quoted here. Sizing is one open shank, filed 男女通用, for either hand. The listing is filed 是否跨境出口专供货源=是 with a 主要销售地区 field naming Europe, North America, South America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Northeast Asia — an export line, and one of the few in this batch with 有可授权的自有品牌=是, so the maker will license its own mark where a buyer wants one. What the pixiu is

A pixiu is a winged lion in Chinese folklore, traditionally associated with drawing wealth towards its keeper — which is why it appears on rings worn on the right hand and on the door of a shop rather than in a jewellery case. Here it is cast in relief and finished so the wings and the snout catch light; the inside of the band carries a second, smaller engraving that is only visible when the ring is off.

Plated, and priced as plated

镀925银 means a silver plating, not silver through the body. That matters for exactly one reason: a plating wears at the high points, and on a chased band the high points are the carving itself. Ask for the plating thickness in microns and treat the ring as a two-year object rather than an heirloom — at this price that is a fair trade, and it is the honest way to put it in a range.

Because the carving is the product and it is the same in both finishes, which gives a buyer two price points off one mould and a story that travels in every market the listing names.

Care

• Wear it dry: plating on a chased surface wears fastest where the carving stands proud.
• Polish with the cloth only — an abrasive dips into the recesses and takes the antiquing with it.
• Store it apart from other rings so the carving does not rub against a plain band.
