Belted Wool Wrap Coat
Belted Wool Wrap Coat
A wrap coat lives or dies on the cloth, because there is nothing else to hold it up: no lining, no interlining, no canvas. The stall describes this one as double-faced wool, 手缝 — two faces joined by hand rather than stitched to a lining — and the black tab on the cuff reading HAND MADE says the same thing in another language. That construction is why the coat hangs soft and heavy instead of standing away from the body, and why the belt can be tied anywhere and still look deliberate. It falls to mid-calf, wide through the shoulder and straight down, with a broad notch collar and a self belt that does the closing over a button placket. The stall lists it in two colours only: a deep yellow that reads as ochre in daylight, and a cream that reads as bone. It prints no fibre percentage and no measurement on the listing, and we have not invented either.
Two faces, joined by hand
Double-faced wool means exactly that: two woven faces with no lining between them, joined along every edge. It is slow work — the seam has to be closed by hand so no stitch shows on either side — and it is why the coat is the same cloth inside and out, and why it moves like a blanket rather than a shell.
The belt is the whole closure
Wrap the left front over the right, tie the belt, and the coat is shut. The placket underneath is there, but the belt is what shapes the coat — high and close for a long line, loose and low to wear it like a coat thrown over everything.
What the stall does not publish
The title says double-faced wool, the cuff tab says hand made, and that is the whole of it: no fibre percentage, no test report, and a size table that gives S, M and L with no measurement against any of them. So the composition and the measurements are marked DETAILS TO BE CONFIRMED rather than filled in from the look of the photograph.
Details
- Colour: Yellow · Cream
- Size: S · M · L, as the stall lists it. Chest, sleeve and length DETAILS TO BE CONFIRMED
- Material: Double-faced wool — the stall’s own description is 双面羊毛, hand-stitched (手缝). It publishes no fibre percentage anywhere, so the exact composition and the lining are DETAILS TO BE CONFIRMED
- Fit: Long and straight, falling to mid-calf, with a wide notch collar and a self belt tied at the waist
Care
- Double-faced wool is a dry-clean cloth. Press it on the reverse with a damp cloth if it creases in store.
- Hang it on a broad shoulder rather than a wire hanger, and give it room — the cloth takes the shape of whatever it is folded against.
- The stall publishes no care label with this listing, and we have not invented one. Until a label arrives with the coat, treat the fibre claims as claims and the care as dry-clean only.
Why we chose it
Because the stall photographed the coat flat on its own ground rather than on a borrowed model, in the two colourways it actually sells and no more, and because the only label the coat carries is a HAND MADE tab — nothing borrowed from anyone else.
